New Beginnings!

On May 5, 2001 David Kenebrew proposed to me. He took me to the Signature Room, Downtown Chicago, for brunch. After we left there he said we were going to his brother's house for a bar-b-cue. On the way there he was talking about us starting over and having "new beginnings". As we pulled up to his brother's house the car CD was playing a song by Dru Hill called "You Are Everything", when we walked up to the door I could hear the same song playing, a coincidence I thought. When he opened the door my father was standing there with a single red rose. He immediately hugged me and said, "This is for new beginnings". At this point I was CONFUSED. My father then stepped out of the way and there in one line stood his brothers and Fraternity Brothers from Omega Psi Phi, each with a single red rose. As I moved down the line each one hugged me and said, "This is for new beginnings". I was in tears at this point and could barely move. David then led me to the basement where there was yet another line of his family and friends each with a rose and the same line of "new beginnings".

In the basement was also my entire family, the rest of his family, my Sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and a host of friends. David then led me to a chair in the center of the room surrounded by all of our loved ones, he then put in a video collage of our five years together. The tape was set to Keith Sweats, "It's In Your Eyes". As the last picture of us showed the tape was paused and David got down on both knees, proclaimed his love, and the tape was restarted and the words, "Will You Marry Me?" scrolled across the screen. Needless to say I said "YES"! He even paid enough attention to detail to be sure that we were dressed alike on this day. The entire lovely event was captured on videotape for us to treasure for the rest of our lives. We will be married on August 2, 2002.
